Here the poet has used 'dAmyata, datta, dayadhvam' phrase in the last stanza, very significantly.

There is a story and scope for wide ranging interpretation on it.

The story occurs in Brihad Aranyaka Upanishad (and some other places). In Br Ar Upanishad 5.2.2, it runs like this: Long back, there were three kinds of children (sons) for Prajapati, the Creator. In olden days father himself would be the teacher for most of their kids, to start with. After their studies under him all these three groups of children approached Prajapati and asked him for a sort of final sermon-like-teaching before they say good-bye!

Then, the men approached him and asked, "Please teach us, father!" He told them also the same single syllable 'da', and asked them too, "Did you understand what I told you?" They, the men told, "Yep, we have. You told us to 'be charitable' ('datta'), isn't it?" "That is OK", he said, "you have got it!"

Next was the turn of the demons. When they too approached their father and asked him, "Please teach us", he told them also the same single syllable 'da'. "Have you understood it?", he asked them. They said, "Ya, we have. You told us to 'be merciful ('dayadhwam'); isn't it?" "That's OK", he said, "you have grasped it!"

Then, at that instant, a heavenly voice is heard thundering" "da, da, da; dAmyata, datta, dayadhwam !" That is why one should learn this triad, triple axioms: self-control('damam'), charity('dAnam') and mercy('dayA')!

In the above story, even though the author has used the terms as gods ('dEvAh'), men ('manuShyAh') and demons ('asurAh'), they may also be construed as the good men in respectable positions, common men and aggressive men in power with evil potentials - respectively. Every one may have more than one, even triple personalities, depending on several factors such as circumstance, interaction etc. Hence, the basic instruction is to observe all the three "da's" meant for all the disciplines.

This is a benedictory song, composed in Sanskrit for the occasion by the great saint-scholar preceptor Shankaracharya of Kanchi kAmakoTi pITha, India. Stay Hungry! Stay Foolish!

I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.

I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?

It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: "We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?" They said: "Of course." My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

It wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it's likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn't know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down - that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.

I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.

My third story is about death.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn't even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor's code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I'm fine now.

This was the closest I've been to facing death, and I hope it's the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960's, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

Concerning Child-Sex Ratio

At 914, child sex ratio is the lowest since Independence

NEW DELHI: The lowest-ever child sex ratio of 914 overshadowed an increase in the overall sex ratio, which is now 940 — the highest nationwide since Census 1971 and a shade lower than 1961 — as it reflects a continued preference for a male child.

As per the provisional data of Census 2011 released here on Thursday, while the overall sex ratio had gone up by seven points to touch 940, against 933 in Census 2001, the child sex ratio plummeted to 914 from 927.

Sex ratio is the number of women against 1,000 men, while child sex ratio is the number of girls against 1,000 boys in the age group of 0-6.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath was happy that the overall sex ratio had increased, but expressed concern at the decline in the child sex ratio.

Ms. Tirath said she would take up the issue with the ‘problem' States and stressed the need for proper implementation of women and child development schemes.

The increasing child sex ratio that came as a shocker in the latest census figures shows 914 girls, and this is the lowest ever since Independence, slipping from 927 in 2001.

The increasing trend has been seen in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Mizoram and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while in all the remaining 27 States and Union Territories, the ratio has shown a decline.

It was the highest in Mizoram at 971, closely followed by Meghalaya (970), while at the rock bottom was Haryana with 830 and Punjab with 846.

At the district level, Lahul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh had the highest sex ratio in the age group of 0-6 at 1,013, while in Twang (Arunachal Pradesh), it was 1,005. It was shamefully low in Jhajjar and Mahendragarh (Haryana) at 774 and 778.

The census figures indicate an increase in sex ratio in 29 States and Union Territories, with women outnumbering men in Kerala. There were 1,084 women against 1,000 men in Kerala, followed by Puducherry where the figure was 1038.

Daman and Diu has a sex ratio of 618, next only to Dadra and Nagar Haveli at 775. Among the districts, Mahe (Puducherry) has the highest sex ratio of 1,176, followed by Almora in Uttarakhand, where it is 1,142. In Daman, it is the lowest at 533, and in Leh of Ladakh, it is 583.

The three major States of Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and Gujarat have shown a decline in the sex ratio compared with the figures of Census 2001, while 29 States and Union Territories have shown an increase.

And a gentle synth base guitar lick in the background picks up volume lifting

you up as if you were in a helicopter taking off from earth.

two more steps, all right, two more steps II

…and a happily persistent string section leads the protagonist, (given the

movie’s context, an artist: a writer), in a casual two step walk, guiding him

down a sun lit path towards a golden land as the music bathes you in brilliant

bright light.

Lyrics:

Koi suraj ki dagar, koi sone ka nagar

Chaand ke rath pe chale, jahan tehre yeh nazar

Trans:

Some sunlit path, some golden city

Walk in the path of the moon, where, this gaze would freeze

And the synth lead guitar applies a slight break along the way followed by a

wonderful panoramic scan of the scenes, which beautifully sets up the next

lines.

Lyrics:

Dhoop Daryaon mein hain, phir safar paon mein hain

Dil ka awara diya, doosre gaon mein hain

Aaon, chale hum wahin

Do kadam aur, sahi IV

Trans:

There’s sunlight in the rivers, there’s journey in your legs

Take two more steps, all right IV

Just listen to the magic created by the tangent chord that is touched just for

‘doosre gaon’ before returning immediately to the base. And the same persistent

string section, almost turning around toward his follower from time to time,

gesturing with his hands to make haste, never stops saying come on, two more

steps! All right? Now as they get closer to this mysteriously beautiful place,

the grand Timpani starts to roar from a distance and the majestic horns can be

heard trumpeting its glory. Leading up to the next narrative, the walk’s

momentum picks up with a lively conga layering over the soft cymbals.

After this narrative, the string section returns with the conga drums, but the

background synth sounds fade out almost to a nightly silence, quite

appropriately setting up the mood for the next verse.

"If a music artist wants to blossom into a full-fledged person, it's not enough

if he knows only classical music; nor is it enough if he is well-versed only in

raagas and techniques. Instead, he should be a knowledgeable person interested

in life and philosophy. In his personal life there should be, at least in some

corner of his heart, a tinge of lingering sorrow."

When I first read this profound quote by ARR, it sparked, deep inside of me,

something very sincere and beautiful; these words may have been that little

pinch the sleeping artist within me, who I had forgotten due to the constant

pursuit of survival instincts and was consciously trying to restrain by

offering traditional societal expectations as excuses, needed to rub his eyes

and wake up! I had a natural interest in life and philosophy; it was as if

these subjects were written into my genes, and I was always grateful to my

parents and to my Buddhist upbringing for inculcating that sense of

understanding and intuitive wisdom so early on in my life which made my life a

little easier and more balanced during the typically turbulent teen-ages,

though it often seemed to outsiders a very difficult and restrained one. It is

this same intuitive sense of balance and understanding, now I realize, that

drew me to the naturally symmetrical music of my life’s early heroes - ARR and

Yanni - at the age of 13 and made me appreciate and grow with their exquisite

music. But, until the moment of reading this quote, I had not made the

connection between these natural interests of mine and the awe-inspiring and

divine profession of the true artist. What is lacking within this dormant

artist that keeps him from getting out of his cozy bed? What is this tinge of

lingering sorrow that ARR has in a corner of his heart? What sorrow could lie

in the heart of this man, who, to me, embodies all that is beautiful, happy,

and heavenly? Is it this sorrow that I lack?

Years passed as an uninterrupted supply of beautiful music and incredible

artistry from the maestro continued to subconsciously alter my spiritual state

of being for the better while I contently lived with my latent artist trying to

figure out what this sorrow is and how and where is it that he is going to find

it. Then, in early 2004, I bought an album I had anxiously awaited for quite

some time; it brought together India’s foremost painter – M.F. Hussein – in his

second directorial venture with India’s foremost composer – A.R. Rahman! I knew

I was going to get magic from this album well before its release! The music was

true to expectations, very colorfully crafted, and quite deftly and intricately

woven with ARR himself attempting to reach the abstract heights of an M.F.

Hussein painting in the two instrumental pieces; however, one song stood out

every time I listened to the entire album. It was something very special and

the sounds and emotions spoke to my heart directly; yes, this song was divine!

Do Kadam gave me so many goose-bumps each time I listened to it that I started

to skip all the other songs (except, perhaps, for Rang Hain) and play only that

over and over again; that is a high compliment given the quality of the entire

album! I did not understand the Hindi lyrics (by Rahat Indori) fully at first

except for a phrase here and there, though it was enough, I thought, to put

together a rough sketch of what the song was about. I was wrong! This song

could not be enjoyed in its fullest being by putting together its pieces in a

haphazard manner like I did. In fact, to this day, I find some deeper meaning

to the creativity in this song. As with any divinely inspired song, the first

few notes and sounds captured my attention: it was synthetic, it was mystical,

and it was vintage ARR! Enter the classy Sonu Nigam…

The silence of the first two lines is nicely contrasted with the conga beat

picking up the momentum again for the difficult final stretch where ‘the path

is lonely and the night is silent’ providing the additional impetus and

enthusiasm needed to carry on the remainder of the journey; but, the most

beautiful moment of the song comes during ‘kitne ghum saath sahe’ when a high

pitched synthetic harmonica lingers almost clinging by a thread to the artist’s

soul, as he reaches this worthy final destination; and now loud and clear, the

horns blow majestically, the timpani crash triumphantly, and a choir of angels

welcomes him to this mystical place of infinite grandeur, sublime beauty, and

immortality; and he knows that he has achieved every artist’s dream, and that

all his struggles are well worth the reward: he has created his own heaven in

his mind!

It took me, at the very least, a year to interpret all of this mind-blowing

creativity and truly come to grips with the deeper meaning of the song; but

after I had fully understood the lyrics and listened to the lingering harmonica

sound during ‘kitne ghum,’ I knew I found the answer to my question: what is

this lingering sorrow which ARR has in a corner of his heart that is essential

to being a great artist? To create such heavenly beauty, divine feelings, and

immortal masterpieces on earth, the true artist and the sincere creator has to

remain pure and warm at heart no matter how vicious and cold the rest of the

world may seem, he has to use in its fullest capacity his imaginative powers,

which he knows he is blessed with, but requires him to let go of himself and

find, and many-a-time, wait, for those moments of divine inspiration, knowing,

still, that after all that mental and physical energy is spent, there is no

guarantee that somebody would have seen, read, or heard his creation and had

been able to enter his heart, mind, and soul and become one with him; for that

is his divine duty: to create a spiritually beautiful heaven on earth so that

even a single person, searching for a higher spiritual state, or maybe, hoping

for a way out of some meaningless existence, or even just looking for a

momentary escape from a hard day’s pain, will see, hear, feel, and begin to

wonder, how is it possible? Where is this possible?

I like the word "Simhaavalokanam" which means having a retrospect. But literally the word comes from the notion that a lion looks behind and sees the path it has been through.

Well, I am not a lion and I do not hunt for anyone. But, really, it has been a while since I put in this blog directly from my head rather than just copy pasting the stuff that I like. Time has gone by. places changed. Most importantly my life partner has been around me for all this time, just that I didn't get it. In a few days, it will be five years since I left to USA. Fortunately, my plans stay the same. Not sure if the path I am going takes me there or if there would be forks which confuse me, but ideas and ideals hold strong. Since starting this blog, I finished my masters, residency, and now moving to my work place. In the personal life, got engaged and recently got married after which I joined her to this blog.(You probably have noticed how my blog got colors and pictures of a happy couple). She has also been an admirer of my blog. It has been a dais to express my feelings in forms of music, video and to cherish my favorites. Every now and then, I had visitors commenting and commending me for what they find here. Thanks to them. I hope they continue to visit and enjoy what I post.

హనుమంతుడు అంజనాదేవి, కేసరిల పుత్రుడు. వాయుదేవుని ఔరస పుత్రుడు. మహాబలుడు. శ్రీరామ దాసుడు. అర్జునుని సఖుడు. ఎర్రని కన్నులుగల వానరుడు. అమిత విక్రముడు. శతయోజన విస్తారమైన సముద్రమును దాటినవాడు. లంకలో బందీయైన సీతమ్మతల్లి శోకమును హరించినవాడు. ఔషధీ సమేతముగా ద్రోణాచలమును మోసుక వచ్చి యుద్ధమున వివశుడైన లక్ష్మణుని ప్రాణములు నిలిపినవాడు. దశకంఠుడైన రావణాసురుని గర్వమును అణచినవాడు.జన్మతః బలసంపన్నుడు అయిన ఆంజనేయుడు ఒకమారు ఉదయించుచున్న సూర్యబింబమును చూచి పండు అనుకొని తినుటకు ఆకాశమునకెగిరెను. అప్పుడు జరిగిన ఘటనలలో ఇంద్రుడు తన వజ్రాయుధం తో ఆ బాలుని దవడ (హనుమ) పై కొట్టెను. అలా కొట్టడం వల్ల ఆ బాలుని దవడకు చొట్ట పడినది. చొట్ట పడిన దవడ కలిగిన వాడవడం చేత హనుమంతుడనే పేరు వచ్చింది. తన కొడుకు దెబ్బ తిన్నందుకు ఆగ్రహించి, వాయుదేవుడు వీచటం మానివేశాడు. అపుడు బ్రహ్మాది దేవతలు హనుమంతున కనేక వరాలిచ్చి వాయుదేవుని శాంతింప జేశారు.

ఆ తరువాత అధికంగా అల్లరి చేసే హనుమంతుని మునులు శపించడం వలన అతని శక్తి అతనికి తెలియకుండా అయింది.

హనుమంతుడు సూర్యునివద్ద విద్యాభ్యాసం చేశాడు. సూర్యుడు గగనతలంలో తిరుగుతూ ఉంటే ఆయన రథంతో పాటుగా తానూ ఎగురుతూ విద్య నేర్చుకొని హనుమంతుడు సకల విద్యలలోను, వ్యాకరణంలోను పండితుడయ్యాడు.నవ వ్యాకరణాలలోనూ మహాపండితుడని హనుమంతునికి పేరు. వివాహితులకు మాత్రమే అర్హత ఉన్న కొన్ని విద్యలు నేర్చుకోవడానికి అనుకూలంగా సూర్యుడు తన కూతురు సువర్చలను హనుమంతునకిచ్చి వివాహం చేశాడనీ, ఐనా హనుమంతుని బ్రహ్మచర్య దీక్షకు భంగం వాటిల్లలేదనీ కూడా కథ.

గురుదక్షిణగా సూర్యుని కొడుకు సుగ్రీవునకు మంత్రిగా ఉండడానికి హనుమంతుడు అంగీకరించాడు. సుగ్రీవుడు, అతని అన్న వాలి కిష్కింధలో ఉన్న వానరులు.

నా చిన్నప్పుడు మా బడిలో పాటల పోటీకి ఏదో సినెమా పాట నేర్చుకొని తీరా అక్కడ "ఆత్మా త్వం" పాడేసిన వైనం చూసి మా ఇంట్లో వాళ్ళు నవ్వుకోడం నాకింకా గుర్తుంది. "భోజనకాలే శివనామ స్మరణ" అంటొ మా నాన్నారు, మా గురువుగారూ ఈ శ్లోకం పాడడం కూడా ఇంకా గుర్తుంది.

అప్పట్లో ఈ శ్లోకం ఎవరు రాసారో ఏమీ తెలియక పోయినా విపరీతమైన ఇష్టం. అది ఆది శంకరాచార్యులవారు రాసిన శివ మానస పూజ లోనిది.

శరీరం గృహం - My body is your abode.
పూజా తే విషయోప-భొగ-రచనా - Any activity I do is your worship.
నిద్రా సమాధి స్థితిః - My sleep is your state of meditation.

You Lord Shiva are my AtmA; my mind is ambikA, the daughter of the Mountain; my five prANas are the GaNas that serve you; my body is your temple; all my involvement in sensual experience is your pUjA; my sleep is the samAdhi state; my wanderings on my feet constitute Your pradakshhiNa; whatever I talk shall be your praises; whatever I do O shambho, all that shall be a propitiation of You.

Such a dedication of everything at the feet of the Lord is what is prescribed by the Lord in the Gita:

Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer in the homa-fire, whatever you give away, whatever intense concentration you do – all that should be offered to Me.

(Mahaprabhu Srimad Vallabhacharya (1479-1531)is one of the greatest sage-philosophers of India. He belonged to a Telugu family and was one of the foremost followers of Bhakti Marga. He established his philosophy of Pushti Marga in north India during the 16th century.His bhakti was much more than devotion. It was becoming mad in the thought of God. According to him, the devotee does not see anything except his Lord everywhere. ‘Madhurashtakam’, written by him, sees sweetness in his Lord inch by inch. This translation into verse has taken the liberty of adding the name of the Lord here and there so that the meaning is very clear and the translation becomes a verse.

This is a special post coming directly from my Airindia flight. Experiencing that nostalgia in all ways. So many screams echo, who can possibly listen to any talks of love?

So many dreams are shattering, who can sift through them?

There are locks on the doors of heart, and why are the locks so rusty?

Daaman is an interesting word. It means a ‘chunni/dupatta or any kind of cloth covering that a woman may have, especially in the Indian subcontinent. But daaman is what usually covers the ‘lap’ so when you are impoverished you spread your daaman to ask for alms and the kids find solace in a mother’s daaman. Earth is like a mother according to Hindu scriptures, country is called ‘matrubhumi’ or ‘motherland’ , therefore this analogy. Hats off to Javed Akthar.

Each one of us have so many similarities and differences. Even twins grow up with differences. As you grow up you accumulate a lot of your lessons direct and indirect from your family and friends molding you as a unique being. And then develop likes and dislikes along with expectations and goals. How strong you believe in them is determined by numerous factors but a few major determinants. There will a constant molding of the basic idea of what is ideal. People strong in their basic definitions of what is good and what is wrong and what their goal in life would tend to deviate less at any major drift in life. The aspect of prioritization. Though I got this word later in my life into application, I feel it is the major determinant of how a person acts at different times. A person with a strong character has lesser degree of juggling around of his priorities and has a clear definition what his basic priorities and goals are. However heavy vicissitudes of life are, he makes sure he would satisfy his basic priorities. And hence,

God! Gimme the sinew to assuage the yen for what I am and I want to be.
And not let myself be the one that I am not or don't want to be.
Let me spring, flourish and realize my pursuit.
Let me not stray away in the flux of convention.
Guide me through these circumstances testing my tenacity.
Let me be as innocent as I am of existence of alternatives I can be,
and to start questioning the authenticity of good and bad.
Give me the wonderful synchrony with nature
to push off to the undefined horizons of complacency.
